JustAnimeDubbed: Kunisaki Yukito is a traveller, ever seeking the girl in the sky from a legend passed down in his family. His journey takes him to a small seaside town, where he meets Misuzu, a girl who seems eager to become his friend. A story spanning a thousand years begins to unfold against the background of their peculiar relationship.

Mine (Spoilers!): Air is a show about a man named Yukito who arrives in a small town while searching for the girl in the sky, who's legend has been passed down in his family. There he meets Misuzu, a lonely, strange girl, who brings him back to her house, and her mother allows him to stay in the shed. He spends the summer there, and makes friends, each of which have something strange about them. One girl is possessed, although not in a demonic way, but occupied by the spirit of a heartbroken mother, whom he eventually frees. Another is a girl who is a dream, the actual girl having died at birth, who spends time with her sister. Finally, there's Misuzu, who has "episodes" where she begins crying uncontrollably. We find that she does this whenever she begins to make friends, which seems to be a curse of the girl in the sky. Misuzu is this girl in her dreams, and as the series progresses, she begins to experience pain. Yukito leaves, thinking it will save her, but before he can catch the bus out of town, he realizes that he must help her. He returns, and wishes he could start over. We then watch the origins of the legend passed down Yukito's family, and see the series again as Yukito, who has become a crow, but also is seperately a person. This also adds more information, and we see Yukito's spirit. Misuzu promises to be strong, and then we see her relationship with her mother-who is technically her aunt, but becomes her mother-grow and strengthen. However, Misuzu's curse as the girl in the sky ends her life. The series ends with two things. First, each other main character goes their own way. Second, we see the story once more, then we see more about the legends origins.

Thoughts: This show definitely had a powerful emotional effect on me, achieving the difficult task of squeezing a few tears out of me. It had a lot of unexplained elements, and the final three episodes seem like extra, which aren't necessary to feel the power of the show. This said, i wouldn't say you shouldn't watch them either, but the main story is as concluded as it gets by the end of episode 12, so don't expect any closure from the last three episodes. Also, I felt that the show did not really finish the story, but finished the characters instead. Each character has their own personal closure, but the story as a whole feels unended.

Rank:

Story: 4/5 Story was interesting, even if open ended.

Animation: 5/5 The animation fit the style of the art and feel of the story perfectly.

Comedy: 2/5 There's a little bit of comedy, but its fairly serious.

Action: 0/5 The story isn't about action at all, but more emotions and ideas.
