With in this time period is a small village that gets raided by bandits during every harvest season. The villagers can't take it anymore, so they decided to send out some volunteers to the city to recruit some samurai to help defend their land. In exchange for defense, the samurai that get hired for the job will receive rice for free of charge. Since the village is too poor to offer any money, the only samurai who would accept their proposal would be the kind who are down on their luck. Will the villagers find any samurai who would help free them from being robbed by bandits? (Description taken from IMDb) Thoughts: Just in general, I loved it. The characters were all at least decently interesting, and you learn who they are through the story without much backstory for any of them. Although it carried a serious story, it managed to keep the tone much more lighthearted than any similar stories I've seen. Finally it has some amazing fights, although perhaps somewhat one-sided. Ranking: Story: 4/5 It actually had a better story than I expected. Animation: 5/5 I never noticed anything that I didn't like in the animation, it all looked great. Action: 4/5 Full of great fights and other action scenes. Comedy: 3/5 Despite the serious story, had one fairly comedic character right through the story. |
