 | Tenjho Tenge (2004) Genres: Action, Drama, Supernatural Episodes: 26 Description: First-years Nagi Souichirou and Bob Makihara entered Tendou High School with the intents of taking it over- only for Souichirou to get soundly defeated by Natsume Maya, the sexy captain of the Jyukenbo martial arts club, who can change her body at will to that of her child-self. Nagi Souichirou is futher humiliated in his complete loss against Maya's subordinate, Takayanagi Masataka. Things get more complicated as Natsume Maya's little sister, Natsume Aya, asks the girl-shy Souichirou to marry her, and tells him to promise never to lose another fight... A day or so after their violent debut at Tendou High School, which turns out to be a martial arts centered institution, the Enforcers, the school discipline team, moves to punish the upstart freshmen. Thoughts: Tenjho Tenge, or Tenjou Tenge, is a fairly standard fighting anime. With characters which possess some supernatural abilities and the development of such, as well as some backstories. However, I found that this one in particular focused too much on the backstory and not enough on the current story, leaving unexplained parts and characters in need of more development, particularly Souichirou and Aya. Both had abilities which needed more development and exploration. Ranking: Story: 2/5 Too much focus on the backstory, and the current time story line suffered, not even getting a proper ending. Animation: 4/5 Everything looks good, especially the supernatural stuff. Action: 4/5 Lots of good fight scenes and other action. Comedy: 3/5 Good comedy in the current time story, but the backstory was much more serious. |
